This led to a confrontation with Spider Man, who rescued Connors but failed to stop Silvermane from drinking the serum. For a short time, the treatment worked perfectly. Silvermane regained his youth and physical vitality, proving that the formula was real. However, the effects eventually faded, and he returned to his elderly condition.

Silvermane’s Connection to Hydra and the Kingpin
Silvermane’s criminal influence extended beyond ordinary mob activities. At one point, his organization worked alongside Hydra, the infamous terrorist network known for global conspiracies and advanced technology.
During this alliance, Silvermane played a major role in destabilizing rival criminal organizations, including those controlled by Kingpin. Although Silvermane and Kingpin were enemies, their rivalry often shifted depending on circumstances, making their relationship unpredictable and dangerous.

How Silvermane Created Cloak and Dagger

A chemist working for Silvermane attempted to create a synthetic version of heroin. To test the drug, runaway teenagers were kidnapped and experimented on. Most of the victims died from the horrific process, but two survivors emerged with incredible powers.
Tyrone Johnson became Cloak, gaining the ability to manipulate dark force energy and teleport through darkness. Tandy Bowen became Dagger, capable of generating powerful light daggers that could harm enemies and heal others.

The Kingpin’s Living Weapon
After Silvermane’s apparent destruction, Kingpin obtained his body and reactivated him for his own purposes. Kingpin believed that his former rival could serve as the perfect assassin.
However, Silvermane’s mind had deteriorated significantly. He operated more like a violent machine than the calculating mastermind he once was. To control him, Kingpin placed a submission collar around his neck that inflicted pain whenever he disobeyed commands.
Spider Man encountered the resurrected Silvermane unexpectedly and was brutally defeated. The cyborg criminal overpowered him with terrifying ease. Yet Silvermane ignored Kingpin’s orders because he remained obsessed with one thing: recovering the life force he believed Dagger had taken from him.
This storyline explored Silvermane’s tragic transformation from crime lord to unstable monster consumed by desperation.
Spider Man, Black Cat, and the Fight for Dagger
The conflict intensified when Kingpin organized a fake drug deal to lure Cloak and Dagger into a trap. The plan also attracted Black Cat and Spider Man, creating chaos among multiple factions.
During the battle, another villain named the Answer theorized that Dagger’s light powers might cure Vanessa Fisk, Kingpin’s dying wife. Dagger was abducted and brought to Kingpin’s penthouse while Silvermane pursued her relentlessly.
Cloak attempted a rescue, but he was weakened and unable to stop the growing violence. Silvermane fought both Spider Man and Kingpin’s forces while desperately trying to reclaim the energy he believed belonged to him.
Eventually, Dagger restored Silvermane’s lost intelligence by returning the absorbed energy. For a brief moment, the old Silvermane resurfaced, confused and exhausted by everything that had happened. Instead of continuing the fight, he simply walked away.
Silvermane’s Endless Return
One reason Silvermane became memorable in Marvel Comics is because he never truly stayed defeated. Even when his body was destroyed, he always found a way back.
During a gang war, the villain Jack O Lantern destroyed Silvermane’s robotic body, leaving only his head intact. Yet even this did not end him. His surviving head was hidden inside an abandoned Hydra facility while scientists prepared a replacement body.
Silvermane later kidnapped Spider Man and attempted to use his blood to enhance his own condition. He believed Spider Man’s powers could make him stronger than ever before and help him reclaim total dominance over the underworld.
The battle that followed nearly killed Spider Man until Black Cat arrived to help him escape. Silvermane’s headquarters exploded during the chaos, seemingly destroying him again. However, Marvel later revealed that the destroyed Silvermane had only been an android duplicate while the real villain survived elsewhere.
This constant cycle of destruction and survival reinforced Silvermane’s central theme. He represented the refusal to die no matter the cost.
Silvermane Versus Daredevil and the Punisher
Silvermane’s ambitions eventually drew the attention of other major Marvel heroes including Daredevil and Punisher.
At a gathering of criminal organizations in Las Vegas, Daredevil temporarily disabled Silvermane by smashing a slot machine into his robotic body. Despite this defeat, Silvermane soon returned with another elaborate plan.
Now reduced to a nearly immobile state, Silvermane began controlling New York City’s computer systems remotely. Using technology and manipulation, he caused widespread chaos while hiring villains like Hydro Man, Speed Demon, Boomerang, and Beetle to capture Deathlok.
Silvermane wanted Deathlok’s cybernetic body for himself, believing it would finally provide the perfect form capable of surviving forever.
This conflict united Spider Man, Daredevil, and Punisher against him. The storyline showcased how dangerous Silvermane could become when combining organized crime with advanced technology.
The Family Legacy of Silvermane
Silvermane’s influence extended to his family, particularly his son Joseph Manfredi. Joseph became involved with the villain group Heavy Mettle and clashed with the New Warriors.
Despite his own physical decline, Silvermane continued trying to shape the future of the Maggia through his son. He pressured Joseph to prove himself worthy and threatened severe consequences if he failed.
Even in his weakened state, Silvermane remained obsessed with maintaining power and respect within the criminal world. His inability to let go of control reflected the same fear that had defined his entire life.
