Jean Grey’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is only just beginning.
Sadie Sink’s introduction as Jean Grey in Spider Man: Brand New Day may have given audiences their first look at one of Marvel’s most important mutants, but the movie deliberately left much of her potential unexplored. Instead of immediately turning Jean into an unstoppable superhero, the film appears to focus on establishing who she is, what powers she possesses, and where she fits into a rapidly changing Marvel Universe.
That makes her future even more exciting.
Jean Grey is already capable of telepathy and telekinesis, two extraordinary abilities that place her among the most naturally gifted mutants in Marvel history. However, what audiences have seen so far represents only a fraction of what she could eventually become.
Her next major appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars could finally begin exploring that potential.
Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey Has Only Shown the Beginning of Her Powers
One of the most interesting aspects of Jean Grey’s introduction is that she does not immediately appear to have complete control over her abilities.

Marvel has an opportunity to make her progression feel natural. Rather than introducing Jean as an already perfect superhero, the MCU can show her learning how to control abilities that are becoming increasingly difficult to contain.
Jean Grey Has Much More to Unlock
Telekinesis may initially seem like a simple ability, but Jean’s potential with it is enormous.
As her control improves, she could potentially manipulate objects with incredible precision, stop attacks before they reach her, protect other heroes, and eventually use her telekinetic abilities to move herself through the air.
Flying would represent a major evolution for Jean.
At the moment, she has not demonstrated the level of telekinetic control required to simply lift herself and move freely through the sky. But that could change as she becomes more experienced.
Imagine seeing Jean arrive during a major battle in Avengers: Secret Wars, no longer struggling to understand her abilities but confidently rising into the air and controlling the battlefield around her.
That would immediately communicate how far she has come.
Her telepathy could evolve in an equally dramatic way.
Jean’s mind based abilities could eventually allow her to communicate across enormous distances, sense the thoughts of other people, influence perceptions, and potentially create convincing mental experiences.
The MCU has barely touched this side of her character.

Jean Grey does not need to physically attack someone to defeat them.
Her mind could become her greatest weapon.

And it would give Sadie Sink the opportunity to explore a much deeper side of Jean’s character.
Avengers: Secret Wars Could Be Her Real Breakthrough
If Jean Grey returns in Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel could use the movie to show the next stage of her evolution.
Spider Man: Brand New Day can function as her introduction. Secret Wars can be where audiences finally see what she is capable of.
That progression would make sense.
Jean does not need to become the strongest character in the MCU overnight. Her development could happen alongside the larger story of the Avengers and the expanding mutant population.
By the time the heroes face a threat on the scale of Secret Wars, Jean could have gained considerably more control over her abilities.
Her telepathy could be stronger.
Her telekinesis could be more precise.
She could potentially fly.
She could potentially create illusions.
Most importantly, she could finally understand the scale of her own power.
Jean Grey Could Become Essential to the New Avengers
The introduction of mutants changes the future of the MCU considerably.
For years, Marvel’s universe was primarily built around characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Spider Man. With mutants now becoming increasingly important, the MCU has a completely new group of characters that can reshape its future.
Jean Grey could become one of the central figures in that transition.
Her abilities make her useful in situations where physical strength alone is not enough. She could help the Avengers communicate, understand enemies, protect civilians and confront threats that cannot simply be defeated with punches.
Her relationship with Peter Parker could also be particularly interesting.

That approach could make her evolution feel earned.
Sadie Sink Could Have a Major MCU Future
Casting Sadie Sink as Jean Grey gives Marvel the opportunity to build the character over several movies rather than attempting to tell her entire story immediately.
That is especially important for Jean because her character requires emotional depth.
Her powers are not simply cool abilities. They can also create fear, responsibility and isolation.
Imagine Jean discovering that she can hear thoughts she never wanted to hear. Imagine her struggling to control increasingly powerful telekinetic abilities. Imagine her accidentally affecting someone’s perception because she has not yet learned how powerful her mind has become.
Those experiences could shape her into a much more complex hero.
Sadie Sink could therefore have the opportunity to portray Jean at several different stages of her journey.
The Jean audiences meet in Spider Man: Brand New Day does not have to be the Jean they see years later.
And that is exactly what makes the character so exciting.
Jean Grey’s Story Is Only Just Beginning
The biggest mistake Marvel could make with Jean Grey would be showing everything too quickly.
Her introduction works better if it is treated as the first chapter rather than the complete story.
She has telepathy.
She has telekinesis.
But she has not reached her full potential.
She cannot yet effortlessly create the kind of mental illusions that could make her telepathy truly terrifying. Her telekinesis has not yet evolved to the point where she can freely use it to fly. Her understanding of her abilities is still developing.
There is therefore an enormous amount of room for growth.
Avengers: Secret Wars could be the movie where audiences finally witness that growth on a massive scale. Jean could arrive as a more confident and experienced mutant, standing beside Spider Man and the other heroes while demonstrating abilities that were only hinted at during her introduction.
The real excitement is not simply seeing Jean Grey return.
It is seeing who Jean Grey becomes.
If Marvel takes its time with her development, Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey could eventually become one of the most powerful and important heroes in the entire MCU.
Brand New Day may have introduced Jean Grey.
But her real story may only be beginning.
